Alternative Care Service Team

Specialized in Pain Management

About The Service Team

The Alternative Care Service Team, consisting of Naturopathic Doctors, Acupuncturists and various other providers, focuses on nutrition with the main goal of educating the patient on the adverse effects of toxicity and how diet plays a major role in over-all health and wellness.  Naturopathic treatments like dietary change, homeopathic supplements and nature-based modalities help the patient to find balance in their life.

Services

In your initial consultation, the Alternative Care Service Team will gather information about your present condition(s), your health history, your family history, your environment, diet, lifestyle, and other relevant areas. The Alternative Care team may perform a slightly altered physical exam from the Medical Service Team. Together with the Alternative Care Service Team, you will create a personalized plan that addresses your concerns and healthcare goals that may include:

  • Diet and nutrition
  • Herbal medicine
  • Homeopathic remedy
  • Hydrotherapy
  • Lifestyle counseling
  • Movement therapy

Our Naturopathic Doctors aim to treat the “whole person” by educating patients to become partners in their own healing.  Our Alternative Care Service Team employs powerful tools for lasting health, wellness and disease prevention. These tools include diet, nutrition, herbal medicines, stress management, and lifestyle behaviors. Studies have indicated that Naturopathic Medicine provides benefit for many conditions including anxiety, menopause, low back pain, heart disease, hypertension, high cholesterol, obesity, diabetes, and conditions related to complex chronic illness.

Our Alternative Care Service Team utilizes intravenous infusions of certain pharmacologic agents to provide substantial pain relief in patients with chronic pain. Studies have shown that Infusion Therapy has been beneficial for various complex pain conditions such as fibromyalgia, neuropathic pain, phantom limb pain, post-herpetic neuralgia, complex regional pain syndromes (CRPS), diabetic neuropathy, and central pain related to stroke or spinal cord injuries. Among the many intravenous infusions used are lidocaine, ketamine, phentolamine, dexmedetomidine, and bisphosphonates.

Hippocrates once said, “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.” Foods and supplements used in the personalized treatment of complex chronic pain has shown to improve clinical outcomes of analgesic therapy and result in considerable improvement of patient compliance and quality of life. In collaboration with our Medical interventions, Nutritional Therapy can be one of the most beneficial tools to help improve overall health outcomes in our patients and specifically to reduce inflammation.

Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese Medicine (TDM) based on the foundational assumption that a “blockage/disturbance” in the body’s “qu,” or flow of energy, can cause various health issues.  Our Alternative Care Service Team employs acupuncture by taking extremely fine needles and inserting them into the skin at specific “acupoints.”  These needle insertions may relieve pain by releasing endorphins, the body’s natural pain-reducing chemicals.  Studies have shown that Acupuncture has provided much relief for several pain conditions including low back pain, nerve pain, headaches, fibromyalgia, and even menstral craps.  Have a common cold?  Acupuncture can even help that too!

Our Alternative Care Service Team utilizes Chinese Medicine by incorporating herbs, acupuncture, and comprehensive changes to diet & lifestyle to reduce and manage pain.  In general, Chinese Medicine is based of the basis that pain occurs when the flow of “qi,” or the energy of the body, has become disturbed or stagnated.  Chinese Medicine has proved to improve various health conditions including pain from injury, arthritis, headaches, migraines, menstral pain, and nerve pain.

Daniel began my professional life with a BA in Biology, working in environmental chemistry and then in the molecular modeling/ drug discovery software industry.  He received his MTOM (Masters in Traditional Oriental Medicine), from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in 1999. Since then, Daniel has spent much of his time in private practice in North Coastal San Diego County; honing his skills in Tung’s family acupuncture and Chinese Herbal formulas.  He enjoys treating a variety of disorders ranging from internal medicine to neurologic disorders, and both acute chronic and pain.  In his leisure time, he enjoys bike riding on the coast with his wife, goofing off with his son, playing with his 2 Australian Shepherds, hiking, gardening, and playing music with friends.

Daniel joined the Desert Clinic Pain Institute team in Jan 2017 and has received much positive reaction to acupuncture.  One of the things that Daniel loves to see is the disbelief on someone’s face when perhaps they  may have doubted that they could find any help.  It also thrills him to see someone a year later, who is in a better place. Perhaps they’ve left their walker behind, or they may have gone back to work, or they see that they don’t have to be on as many pain medications.  Daniel says that his ideal patient, is one whom desires to be off of pain meds, whom is willing to follow their treatment plan and follow lifestyle advice that will help them achieve their goals in getting and remaining healthy.
